HOW WE ARE DIFFERENT
ThisRock is on a mission to show 1,000 small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and their 10,000 employees over the next 3 years SIMPLE ways they can positively impact their profitability while becoming more sustainable to this rock (Earth).
Quick Meatball Math
There are 1.2 million small businesses in Canada today. There are another 22 thousand medium sized businesses. Together, they account for 99.8% of all businesses in up here in the north. (Stats Canada 2022)
Now, let’s talk about the humans working there. Small businesses in Canada employ 68% of our people. Medium businesses employ another 21%. That means that 79% of Canadians work at SMEs.
The Impact We Can Make
The majority of Canadians believe there is a climate emergency, BUT only 7% of us act to help. Why? It’s hard to know what to do. SMEs and their employees don’t have time, budget, a full time sustainability manager, or expertise. Hence our mission, not to Mars, but on Earth. We advise businesses and their people to start 1-2 sustainable and green initiatives. The best part: we get to educate a good chunk of Canadians on what they can do to fight climate change in their personal lives, too.

IN THE NEWS
ThisRock was in the news in 2023. We ran a sustainability & ESG workshop for 30 local businesses in Ontario. We proved being “good” is good for profits. Watch the coverage.
Our Founder, Lindsay, was interviewed by Financial Post in 2023. The article was titled; How ESG is helping Canadian small businesses grow.
“The expectation for large public companies to track and disclose their performance on a host of ESG metrics is trickling down to Canadian small- and medium-sized companies, whose existing and potential customers are increasingly asking them for information on their ESG practices. But while new requirements can present challenges for SMEs, experts say it can also be a boon for business.”
