What ESG incentives or grants are available for businesses?

ESG

Make use of ESG & sustainability grants and incentives for your business.

Looking at capital project candidates at your business? Want to pitch a green or social approach? For example, heat pumps, solar energy, or supporting communities and people with employment opportunities, or outreach. Initiatives like these – which are tied to your company’s mission, vision, and values – can make you feel good and inspire your stakeholders, too.

What programs is my business eligible for?

How do you know if your company is eligible for a program or an incentive because of your people and Planet initiatives? It’s confusing. Let’s go figure it out.

A great first step is to Google town, city, or local area + the word “retrofit program.” You could even Google your country + “retrofit program.” There’s one here in Canada, for example. It is on the Save On Energy website.

What initiatives can bring in grants or funding for green?

One common program you will see is money for switching out some old HVAC or lighting. You could even see funds is you replace older manufacturing equipment. Why? Local governments want you to limit your energy use. They therefore incent you to drive efficient changes in your brick-and-mortar shops, storefronts, or warehouses.

Another way to find green grants or funds is to Google your Industry or business type and the word “incentives” or “energy.” For example, if you’re in the food service industry and you’re in Canada there is a Food Service Distributor discount program. Applicants accepted can get $1,250 off of new equipment for their business. If you’re a small business there are specific grants for you under 50 employees. For example, you can get up to $4,500 back through lighting and non-lighting efficiency switch outs.

There is also funding available for the “S” and ESG. Social initiatives can grant your business money. For example, hiring or supporting a certain demographic in your community can draw in dollars. We’re seeing examples across marginalized youth, women, the black community, or indigenous people. There are grants or incentives available through the British Columbia government, for example.

Making use of these programs is smart

3M Canada is a terrific example of a firm utilizing grants and programs to save money while saving the environment. Their Canadian operations achieved 29% energy reduction in its seven Canadian facilities. “Prices rose during this period but at the facility their energy bills remain constant.” Read the full case study here.

Proof is in the pudding.  Make sure you make use of grants or financing or funding available to your business. You can do a good thing and also it can be positively impactful for your profitability.
